SPRING TIDBITS:
- The first day of spring (spring equinox) falls on March 19th/20th this year (for those of us in the central time zone, it hits at 1130pm on the 19th).
- On the spring equinox, the Sun spends a roughly equal amount of time above and below the horizon at every location on the Earth, so night and day are approximately the same length.
- The word equinox is Latin for "equal night".
- Meteorologists use the equinox as the official change of the season because, although it varies each year, it allows for the most accurate record-keeping.
