Q: Do you have a method or source you look to use for inspiring your designs?
A: I keep a close eye on fashion trends so I can create jewelry that works well with what people are wearing in any given season. But, I really think you can find inspiration anywhere you look. Sometimes, something as simple as an interesting color palette can spark a jewelry idea.
Q: How often do you work on your jewelry designs?A:I've been designing jewelry professionally and writing about it for the past 15 years. I'm totally blessed to get to make jewelry every day of the week, if I want to!
Q: How would you describe your design style or technique?
A: My jewelry is stylish and wearable. I combine a variety of techniques, from stringing to wirework and knotting. My favorite pieces are the ones you can wear everyday.
Q: Do you work in any other mediums beside jewelry design?
A: Beads are my absolute favorite medium. If I’m not making jewelry, I’m crafting with my kids, running or reading a book. Someday, I’d like to write a novel.
Q: What is your favorite stone to work with and why?
A: I'm drawn to any stones in shades of aqua. I’m also loving peridot. It’s my birthstone and a softer take on Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year, which is emeralds.
Q: What is your favorite shape/ size to work with and why?
A: I heart chunky stones! The flat nuggets in the center of these necklaces have an eye-catching, organic shape that makes a statement, no matter how you use the bead.
Q: If you could pick one person living or not to wear your jewelry who would it be and why?
A: The biggest compliment I can hope to receive is if one of my girlfriends likes one of my pieces of jewelry so much that she wears it everyday. What more could a jewelry maker hope for.
